
The UK government will be conducting a national test of the UK Emergency Alerts service on Sunday 23 April 2023. The test will involve sending an alert to all mobile phones and tablets in the UK.
The alert will be a simulated emergency warning about a major incident. It will appear on your device’s screen and will be accompanied by a loud, siren-like sound.
We know in certain circumstances, having an alarm go off could cause significant distress and could even cause threat to life. Here’s our guide on how to prevent the alarm for most mobile devices:
**Android 12 or higher**
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap Notifications.
3. Tap Emergency Alerts.
4. Tap the switch next to Allow alerts to turn it off.
**Android 11**
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap Sound.
3. Tap Emergency alerts.
4. Tap the switch next to Allow alerts to turn it off.
**Android 10 or lower**
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap Sound.
3. Tap Emergency alerts.
4. Tap the switch next to Amber alerts to turn it off.
**Samsung devices**
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap Connections.
3. Tap More connection settings.
4. Tap Wireless Emergency Alerts.
5. Tap the switch next to Allow alerts to turn it off.
**Apple devices**
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap Notifications.
3. Tap Emergency Alerts.
4. Tap the switch next to Allow Alerts to turn it off.
